When Aleksandra and her husband needed sensory items to support their autistic son, they made the big step to ask FTCT for help.

Specialist sensory items can be expensive and it’s not always easy for families to get funding for these often life-changing items. Here Aleksandra explains how her grant has made a difference to everyday life.

“I am grateful that we have been supported with the grant. The grant allowed us to replace some of our sons' bedroom furniture, which were broken and didn’t store their clothes properly. Now the boys' bedroom looks really good and it is a pleasure to play and sleep in it”

“The grant also helped us to fund a weighted blanket and bean bag for our autistic son, which has been a complete game changer. Since getting the blanket, he has been sleeping on his own which seemed to be impossible before the weighted blanket era.”

Advice for other parents

“It is not easy to ask for help. My husband works and I am an unpaid carer. We have not chosen life as it is right now. We do our best and try to find the best solution to every difficult situation, which is why we decided to apply for the grant. After getting the grant, being able to buy the much-needed products was a really good experience. It felt like a Christmas atmosphere for our family.”

“We found that cooperation with the Trust was smooth and not judgemental which is more than appreciated.”
