Our impact Your Stories Supporting Koney and Matthew through financial worry “Applying for an FTCT grant was a truly uplifting experience. From the start, the team were kind, understanding, and genuinely caring, which made us feel supported during a very stressful time.” - Koney Koney is Dad to Matthew (6) and works full-time at the John Lewis Partnership. When financial worry had become overwhelming, Koney reached out for support through his local Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Here, Koney shares his experience of applying. “Even with full-time work, it has been incredibly difficult to cover all our bills and basic living costs. The constant worry and pressure became overwhelming and slowly started to affect our everyday family life. There were many moments when we felt exhausted, stressed, and unsure how we were going to manage.”“When we applied, we were in urgent need of essential items for Matthew, including a school uniform, a proper bed, and a small table where he could sit comfortably and focus on his schoolwork. We felt that having these basics would make a meaningful difference to his daily routine, comfort, and ability to learn, and would greatly ease the stress our family has been facing.”Koney applied using our online application process and was awarded a grant within 4 weeks, meaning he could buy Matthew the items he needed to help ease day-to-day life.“The funded items have had a very positive impact on Matthew’s life. Having a proper bed has greatly improved his sleep, which has helped his mood, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.” “The school uniform has given him confidence and a sense of belonging at school, allowing him to feel comfortable and proud among his peers and the small table has provided him with a dedicated space to focus on his schoolwork. Together, these items have brought stability, comfort, and reassurance to his daily life and reduced stress for our family. How the application process helped Koney too "Applying for an FTCT grant was a truly uplifting experience. From the start, the team were kind, understanding, and genuinely caring, which made us feel supported during a very stressful time.” “Knowing that someone was willing to help and listen to our struggles gave us hope and comfort. The process not only provided practical assistance but also reminded us that there are people who genuinely care about families like ours. It was a relief and a joy to feel understood and supported. Koney’s advice for other parents applying “To any other parent thinking of applying, I would say, don’t hesitate and have faith in the process! Be honest about your situation and don’t be afraid to ask for help—there are people who genuinely want to support you.” “Applying for a grant can make a real difference, not just practically but also emotionally, by giving you hope and relief during a difficult time. Remember, reaching out is a brave and important step for your child’s well-being and your family’s future.” Could a grant help your family?
